![]() ![]() Open source has always felt like a pipe dream to me. Can we dare to hope that this is a pattern? What big tech companies are flat out going to collapse in the next few years? If there’s a viable FOSS replacement, what if that takes over? We saw a big bump with mastodon. The economy isn’t looking… great right now. Imagining 10 years from now, what is the software world going to look like? I have a hard time imagining that open source is going to suddenly slow down. I feel like we’re at an inflection point. I’m writing this on a laptop also powered by FOSS. This is a game made by a bunch of people in their spare time.Īnd it keeps up to a game made by a trillion dollar company. I can watch a sunset over a blockey mountain. I’m very casual, so I don’t really care if pork chops aren’t quite the right color. I saw some stuff that said “don’t go into it expecting Minecraft” but I was trying to see how close to Minecraft it could getīut it got pretty much exactly to Minecraft. Tried out Minetest(specefically Mineclone2), its surprisingly good! I’ve never really played a FOSS game, so my expectations were really low. Recently I’ve moved to a linux main computer I find that building, creating, and even destroying some of my creations to be an effective stress reliever.I’ve played Minecraft extremely casually for awhile. It is also the best game to channel your creativity. Minetest is a very addicting game that can be used both for educational purposes or to simply pass the time. The wonderful game design also makes it appealing for kids. The colors make it an enjoyable game because it brings shine to your creations. It also has bright and vibrant tones that can brighten up your screen. The gameplay is smooth, which makes building easy and fast. Some are uniquely available only in this game and not in other building games like Minecraft. Nice game graphicsThe blocks in Minetest have really smooth texture packs. The end results are satisfying. It is up to you if you want to do the same. I made the land into a beautiful and lively garden. I started planting out greens when I stumbled upon a lifeless desert. From here you can start cultivating your land and transform it into a beautiful landscape. When you first start, the game will take you to an empty open field that is either covered in a thick blanket of snow or dry sand with a few weeds scattered around. Just like in Minecraft, there are various crafting tools and materials you can use like ores and pickaxes. This game will allow you to continue constructing mansions, forts, and any other architecture you want without any time limit. Limitless creationsThere is no need to worry about running out of materials to build. It is similar to Minecraft but has its own unique set of features that you will love.
